Sump Help

Normally you would have the sump below the tank and then pump the water up back to the tank. As yours is next to your tank you would have to pump the water to the sump. Aslong as youer outlet from your sump is higher than you tank water level youll be ok. Looking at the pic, you would need to raise your sump slightly so your outlet goes over the tank and then just add a 90. cheers

You need a small powerhead. Problem with this sort of set up is that generally they sit under the water and push water up a short pipe in this setting, so you end up with something in the tank. For this sort of distance you may get away with a short tube on the inlet with the powerhead in the sump. If you play around with the tube you could probably get it to surface skim the tank.

ok. i have a power head that says not to use it in saltwater because salt is very erosive. but could i just put tubes on the intake and outlet and and then not submerge it and that would be fine?

If the pump specifically says not to use in saltwater then I wouldn't try it. Even if there's nothing that could be harmed by the water traveling from intake to outlet, equipment sitting anywhere around a saltwater tank will get salt deposits on it over time.

You could have an overflow to the sump aswell but then you would still need a pump to return it. cheers
