Hi
I have decided to convert my tropical 4ft fish tank (140l approx.) into a marine set up. I am a complete novice and this will be my first attempt at setting up a marine tank. although i have kept tropical freshwater fish for 15 years on and off. If this accounts for anything in the marine world
I have been browsing ebay for sumps and came accross this.

Anybody give me any advice on whether this is any good or not, or even if the price is reasonable.
Would you reccomend buying a complete marine setup and keeping the 4ft tank as freshwater. Rather than giving me all the extra work of converting the existing tank???

Any advice in general would be appreciated also.
thanks

Looks fantastic. As long as you can fit it under your hood I say go for it :D. Thats pretty much exactly how I'd design a sump...

Has the tank ever had copper in it? Even if the answer is no, you have to do a very good clean and dry, several times, to have any hope of keeping inverts in there. But it can be done.

May be less of a hassle getting a new tank.

Either way, get it drilled!!!

hi
thanks for the responses. i was looking at this tank or similar to get started with and pretty sure the sump would fit in the cabinet.

that would mean i have a 60 uk gallon main tank and a 26 uk gallon sump. would this be an acceptable sump size. Thus giving me a total of 86 uk gallons. which hopefully would mean i could get away with a little more than if it was a smaller setup. by getting away with i mean the mistakes i will probably make . it should keep the nitrates etc spikes to a minimum.

I have also been looking at power heads. i have 5 smaller powerheads already and was planning on using these as i could position them around the tank causing a good mixture of the water and flow through the liverock. or would just 2 powerfull heads do the same job?
I have a eheim 2228 wet/dry filter would this be any good to use on the marine setup as a return pump or just a straight forward filter??

thanks for any advice
