summer delayed fish shipments worse than winter???

so my UPS overnight of fish from Dan’s as delayed, when a plane was late, and missed it’s connecting flight… bad weather at one of the hub airports??? )

not sure what kind of extreme temps these packages could be exposed to while holding through the heat of the day, waiting for the next connecting flight???

I never buy in high summer or low winter. Mortality rates go up once it gets to 26c/ I guess 80ish F. A box sitting on the asphalt of a tarmac is in a bad situation. A box in a mail truck in serious heat suffers.

Cold is worse, as it kills faster, but I've seen some summer fish that were overheated, and while they arrived alive, they died in quarantine in the period following.

If I'm getting fish shipped, it'll be in an unexpected temperate period at both ends (I check), or it'll April to June, and September to later October.

I know I'm being Debbie Downer here, and I hope your fish dodge the bullet.

Fingers crossed for you. Do you know what airport and what the temps were there?

The only shipping disaster I've ever had in all these years--where the entire shipment perished--was due to excessive heat not cold. I think the vendors have really gotten the heat-pack protocol down but are less successful prepping for excessive heat.

fish were all alive, when they got here… there were cool packs, in the place of the normal heat packs, I didn’t measure the receive temperature, but it felt close to normal…

I read an article from a guy who mailed a package equipped to record and save temperatures throughout the voyage in summer. The fluctuations were intense. I think his package took 2 days. I'm glad this one worked out.

I am trying my best not to order online anymore, but if I cheat on my plans, it'll be in the autumn. Don't look at sellers' sites Gary. Just don't look...

Same here as in South Florida I can not order anything live be it fish , inverts from April to Nov and when I do order I only use UPS / FedEx as USPS out of the question here.

I was eyeing some shrimp but simply way to hot now so will wait few months as no one locally sells any.

In my case it is difficult if not impossible to find unusual fish and no one sells freshwater shrimp.
