As in Rabiit Snails? If so, what type did you get?
I have a mixed species breeding colony of ~20 including two ~0.5cm youngsters (mostly "golden" and "orange spotted", but I may have a singleton "yellow antennae" left). I have been looking to sell tham on for some time, but have had no intrest in them locally via AC, really ought to have done an advert here by now for them and other non-African fish I'm looking to find suitable homes for rather than get their true market value for.
As time has gone by, I have found it increasingly difficult to give these snails a "mega peaceful" tank to live in, especially in recent times when I have two Steatocranus casuarius nursery tanks on the go for 44 "teenagers" and 4 "relatively newborns" (as I discovered nearly two years ago to my horror that my first Steatocranus was feasting on the antennae of my poor Rabbits!). Besides the more obvious Weather Loaches and my male Aborichthys elongatus fondness of any snails, I then discovered my Ilyodon xantusi livebearers like the taste of snail too last autumn.
They are easily spooked by tankmates and so can be easily outcompeted for food, I hate to admit I've lost a fair few presumeably to starvation (I was amazed to find newborns in the Rio240 recently, as my four Hoplos are like vultures whenever food is on offer). Back when I had a very peaceful 620T (Hypoptopoma spp. catfish; Synodontis nigriventris; Pangio doriae) at 25C with my U4 filter, they did really well (they only had my peaceful Hypoptopoma to food-compete with in the daytime) and singleton newborns were produced like clockwork. They tended to eat whatever I added for the fish (mainly Tetra Prima, Hikari algae wafers, defrosted bloodworm), in addition to the Hikari "Crab Cuisine" I added specifically for them to keep their shells in good condition. In the last week I've resorted to putting them in a hand-on breeding net, so that I can target feed them.
