Hi!

ive just gotten back into fish keeping and have had my 120 litre tank for a good nine months at the mo i have 1 guppy 1 platty and some kind of tetra(somebody gave it me) , and was wondering if anyone could recommend any suitable tank mates which are small and non-aggressive and recomend how many
i am buying today 6 neons :hyper: and want some really nice fish to go with them i may add more neon tetras.

cheers truckasauras :good:

please add some more of the tetras that you already have. The one by hitself needs friends.

Most tetras will be fine together but avoid black widow/ skirt, serpae, red-eye, beunos aires & columbian tetras as they are notorious for nipping fins off male guppies.

Checkered barbs are nice and so are dwarf gouramis. Maybe Indian Banded gourami or Honey dwarf gourami.

Possibly a school of pygmy corydoras and a couple of ottocinclus catfish for algae control.

cheers colin :good:

just bought 6 neon tetras they look brilliant under the light and 2 peppered corydoras but a pair of red dwarf gouramis caught my eye  next time ey :hyper:

We need to know how many fish you have in the tank already. Also how often you clean your tank, water parameters and filtration.

You could go with gouramies, corys, rasaboras, glass fish, guppies, danios, cherry barbs.

The two red dwarf gourami's are most likely both male, so just get one, or they will definitely fight with each other.
And if you want to get males and females, i would get a trio, just to spread out the aggression.

definately give your lonely tetra something to school with, and while platies do not necessarily school, they enjoy company IMO so you could get a couple more.

the unknown tetra has palled up with pentazona barbs in my other tank
but i want to stay away from livebearers
i was thinking now i only have 6 neons and 2 peppered cories in the 120litre that i will add 6 tiger barbs and 6 glowlights or lampeyes

would i be able to mix tiger barbs with th gouramis

What does IMO stand for

(IMO stands for 'in my opinion')

If you have a platy and like these fish then more platys or mollys would make a colourful addition. Personally I'd avoid the barbs as they can be a bit pushy and nippy with other fish. If you like gouramis then the most peaceful of this breed are the Pearl/Lace gourami. they are very pretty and very graceful. I'd recommend one male and two females ratio.

THANKS i used to have about 6 platys 5 females 1 male only one bred and it gave birth to 40 fry most of them were eaten and the platy i have now is from a brood that my deceased female produced
