Hey all,

I bought an LED moonlight strip a while back which came with a sticky strip to attach to my hood, but it hasn't lasted very long, presumably because it was around water (I don't have a condensation tray so the lights tend to get wet).

I'm looking for some kind of adhesive to fix it back on, but was wondering what was best to use? My LFS sells special aquarium adhesive but as you can imagine it comes at a premium. I don't mind paying it if I had to, unless I've already got something suitable. I own a hot glue gun - would this be okay to use? It won't be submerged, but it'll probably come into contact with the water by condensation and don't want it leeching any nasties into my tank.

Help?

Not sure about the glue, but a easy way could be with elastic bands?

use super glue? (the 100% cy...something one, cant remember what its called it begins with cy though ) ... if its safe for attaching plants in the aquarium it would be safe for a light unit?

cyanoacrylate :good:
That would do the job!

Are you in the UK? If so "No More Nails" is very good and can take the moisture and heat. Can get it at B&Q and such like.

I use the suction cups and clips that are used for xmas lights to hold mine to lid. All the garden centres around me have them in at the moment. They come in different sizes might be worth a try

Update: I went to my local DIY shop today (my nearest B&Q is about 6 miles out of my way). The only superglue they had had some other ingredient in it along with the cyanocrylate and didnt' want to chance it. Instead I bought some heavy duty double sided tape. Going to see how that goes.

Cyanoacrylate superglue is perfect for it, its what we use to glue plants to rocks :) (Got mine from Wickes) Westwood did tell you that in the above post. Tape wont last 5 minutes with the moisture under the lid.

i got my glue off a carboot =D for £1

I couldn't get hold of the 100% cyanoacrylate superglue and wasn't sure if the other ingredient that was in there was going to be dangerous for my tank. I've got this tape now so I might as well try it, the worst that can happen is it doesn't work.

If it doesn't, supermarkets sell triple packs of superglue 100% cyanoacrylate for like a pound. That's what I used for mine.
