Having seen my number of Killis slowly deplete (old age / bacterial infection a couple of months ago) I am starting to think about options for some small colourful fish to add to the tank.

I have room for a small group (6 - 8 ) of non nippy fish which max out about 4cm, and was hoping for some suggestions.

My thoughts so far:

Rummynoses - GF not keen as they are not "brightly coloured"
Cardinal Tetra - Nice fish, but somewhat "Vanilla" if you know what I mean
Harelquins - Nice fish but not as eye catching as I had in mind
Sparkling Gouramis - Hard to come by and may not get on with my Rams
A N Other Killi - Know very little about these, would like to avoid annuals though

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Tank is heavily planted, stable and mature.

pH 6.9
Nitrite / Amonia 0
Nitrate 30
KH 8.5
GH I forget the exact measurement, but fairly high

No tank mates that are a particular threat to small fish.

cardinals - vanilla?! are you saying they are boring?

What other fish do you have?

I would suggest cardinals :) sorry.

How about...glowlights? Have you seen jimbooos pics? They are quite pretty, not the most colourful though.

I've not seen sparkiling gouramis in LFS either, but they might be worth the wait or asking if they can order them for you?

how about some lovely female bettas

Not keen on them and don't fancy the aggression.

cardinals - vanilla?! laugh.gif are you saying they are boring?

Boring... well no (well kind of), just prefer something a little more... unusual.

At the moment, I have a couple of Rams, a RTBS, couple of plecs (one BN, one small Gold Nugget) and three small Clown Loaches along with the remaining killis.

Plenty of room in the upper part of the tank.

Had Glowlights before so I'm ruling them out.

The Gouramis are top of my list at the moment, maybe just 3 to start off with if my LFS can get them for me.

How about dwarf red honey gouramis, mmmmm they're lovely, only tiny though.

how about black or red phantom tetras, or a mix of the two?

Current stock also includes a Honey Gourami, must have forgot her... :look:

How do Endlers do in single sex groups? Don't really fancy a population explosion and am not a huge fan of live bearers as a rule, although these seem lovely fish.

Red Phantoms are a good call Wolf, think that the Gouramis are still in pole though.

Just found these Threadfin Rainbowfish:

lovely fish, sound good community stock too.

I'm sure between the RTBS and cats and loaches you won't have a problem with Endler fry. They are beutifully coloured little fish  and though the threadfin rainbows look nice, they aren't as colourful - if colourful is what you are after.a

A few male Endlers sit well in single sex groups. They will tend to flare their finnage for a while until a hierachy (sp?) becomes established.
Endlers are inquisitive colourful little fish and love to be at the front of the tank, they aren't as skittish as most and seem to enjoy attention.

I have green barbs they are very colorful and seem to get along with all my other fish.
