I just bought a Top Fin 5 gallon tank. It's flat on the back and hexagon in the front. It's pretty cool. :good: I was going to put a betta in it, but now I'm not sure. I kind of want to get a school of fish, but is there any fish besides a betta that would be okay in a 5 gallon tank?

Or, are there any fish that would be okay with a betta? Someone on another forum said guppies would be okay, but I wanted to check here first. I've already read the 'acceptable betta tank mates' thread but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

The tank's dimensions are 16" x 9.75" x 16".

Also, what watt heater would be good for this tank? It didn't come with one, so I might need to buy one once winter comes.

I wouldn't put schooling fish in anything smaller than a 10G. Best sticking to a Betta in a 5G.

I seem to get mixed reviews when it comes to what to put in a 5 gallon. How about guppies? I saw some really cool black guppies at petsmart. How about glass fish (undyed of course). Those are also pretty cool. :good:

Any fish that would be good in a group of 2?

Dwarf platy's get about 1/2 inch long, I had 2 females and 2 panda cory's in one of my 5 gallons for months and they all got along very well.

I'm thinking of doing a species tank with endler's livebearers. They're small and I think they look really cool. :good:

I have just set up a 34 ltr as a fry tank. To make it more interestig I have added a small shoal (6) of Endlers. When the fry are moved on then I will add to the shoal. :good:

I have four male gups in my 5g hex tank and they are lovely! Thoroughly recommend them -- I was worried that they might be a bit boring but they are always dashing around, playing in the air bubbles, exploring & chasing each other.

I'd definitely only have males, whether I get endler's or guppies. :good: I have no place to put fry or give fry to.

Guppies would be cool, too. I think I'm going to have to see the fish at the fish store to make up my mind. But I have time. I'm only starting my fishless cycling today!

I'd go for the Endlers rather than Guppies; Guppies are nowhere near as hardy as they were years ago, the result of too much inbreeding causing weak strains. Not recommended as a first addition to any tank.

No, I meant regular glass fish. I think they get to be about 1.5 inches. But I decided against them anyway. I would have only been able to have them in the tank, and I want some fish that are colorful.

Does anyone have endler's? I've looked them up online and many sites say that many fish stores don't have them. I hope I'm able to find them.
