There seems to be a large volume of threads along the similar lines: 'What's suitable for my tank, why are my plants dying' etc, is it possible that we could have a template pinned so that people experiencing problems can give us all of the relevant information in their first post? It would save a lot of time and confusion in my opinion.

Would be nice to get up a photographic encyclopedia for plants :) but im sure it already exists somewhere...

MBOU- in the fish species index, there's a plant index. Always in the works & I encourage new submissions, but it'll get you started.

what i want is a thread pinned in every (or most) forums so when people say "my neon is dying" and they just say that it gives absolutely no info, it will be a template and it will include parameters, temp, tank size, how long the prob, how long the fish is alive.....

As far as I'm aware there is a template for the type of topics described above in the emergencies section.

You know we could do that, but IMO, it's rather impersonal, don't you think? Like putting people through a little essembly line to solve their problems. Guess I don't mind the newbie questions so much. Everybody starts out that way. Besides, it's kinda nice taking them through the first stages, the problems, the algae, & then watching them develop some good scaping skills. I like the large volume, it's a good sign, means people can come here & they know they'll get help. Maybe one of them later turns into an Ian or a SBS or a SuperColey1. Feels good knowing I had a small part in that & people felt confident to come here with their questions. If you get tired, take a break, there are others who'll pick up the slack. :)

wow! didnt even realize! SO NOW THERE'S NO EXCUSE ANYMORE!!!!!!

See, now I'm going to go grocery shopping, so it's up to you & SBS to hold the fort while I'm gone. Then when I get back... You can take a break.

Yeah, I agree with what you have put there Llj :)

Of course you agree, this is why they pay me the big bucks!

Now, both of you dig up my ADA journal & post in it saying how wonderful I am.

I am kind of high on paint fumes, by the way. They painted the apartment I'm staying in at New York City. I DID mean every word I said about helping Newbies, though.

I agree too, I like the never ending supply of threads and like helping out in any way possible, I started out and there was no forums and not even broadband lol, I had problem after problem and learned so its always good to share what we know even if the posts are repeated.

You know what I'd like... Since we're talking suggestions...

1. For more planted people to post in this thread...

Meet the Plant people

2. For more people to submit articles here...

Plant Index

This would help Ian and I a lot. :D

Oh, I'm still rather high, but it's better.

I'll have a look at those when I get back from college and see if I can contribute.

could the plant index perhaps be made a little more obvious, both in here (i know its in PARC but I think maybe sometimes people suffer from info overload, plus its at the bottom, not at the top, so people are less likely to get that far before giving up) and in the fish species index?

Ian and I are looking at making the section MUCH more accessible. I've always believed that the Plant index should be a separate entitiy from the fish index, and eventually, I'd love to give it subsections based on plant type, but it's not up to me alone to make that decision. Big changes within a section have to be agreed upon by the other mods and admin as well. The mods as a team take on projects and we're working together.

But in the meantime, you could still help out. No one in this thread is a poor plant grower, and I KNOW all of you take good pictures. Take a couple moments and do a write up on a plant species, or tell us about yourself in the meet the Plant people thread. Just make sure the stuff's in your own words or the Plagarism Nazi (moi) will get very upset.

I will introduce myself in the plant people thread (when the boy stops playing on cbeebies and let's me near the computer!) but I wouldn't feel comfortable writing a plant listing up. I don't feel I've been doing it long enough: just as I would not consider myself to have legitimate experience after having a bristlenose for a month, I don't don't feel I've got enough experience to create a detailed information sheet about any of the plants I have. I think that's why people don't volunteer to write up an index about any of the missing fish either. If you're looking for info it's usually because you either don't own it, or are new to owning it. If you are an experienced owner why would you be looking for info about them in the index in the first place? Therefore the people who are experienced enough to do a write-up don't know one needs doing, and the people who need info and notice there isn't any aren't brave enough and go elsewhere for their information needs.
