thanks to advice offered on my other threads while cycling.
I ended up pushing the filter sponge from my small goldfish tank in beside the spong on my tropical tank and the ammonia/nitrites disappeared within 3 days and have had nitrate readings for the last week. Could of just been the right time (6 weeks), or the products (Seachem Stability and Tetra Safestart), or indeed could have been the borrowed media.
Anyway, after cycling I was left with 2 small platys, 5 neon tetra and 2 female baloon mollie. I noticed since the water cleared up that the neon's started to chase each other.
Yesterday I bought two dwarf gourami, which seemed to have settled in and are keeping themselves to themselves. Both male and not fighting.
However, everyone else is. Baloon Mollies are chasing the Platys. One of the Platy's is chasing the other Platy and the neons are all chasing each other. Everyone seems generally more active.
The only two things that have changed are the water chemistry has come good and the introduction of the dwarf gouramis. As the DGs seem don't seem involved with any of the other fish, I wondered if the sudden nippiness was as a result of the water improvement? Is this normal?
