Suddenly All Going Wrong! Please Help

There's alot going off in your tank, the platy I would end its misery, arched spine and fins falling apart is a sign of fish tb.
The rams try them on some veg.

You mean the rainbows?
I gave them shelled peas the other night and they weren't really interested, there has been cucumber in the tank until today, its been eaten now, but i don' t think the rainbows bothered with it.

I will put platy 2 down :(

i will continue to treat platy 3 with sterazin as a precaution.

Ok, good luck joanne.

oh dear platty 2 doesnt sound good.
the hump back could be down to internal parasites, i have no experience of sterazin but understand it is good for both internal and external parasites, i think a full treatment course takes about 2 weeks??

its probably a bit of a gamble where you house & treat platty 3 now but hopefully he will be ok

as for your rainbow - firstly how envious am i? i think they are stunning fish but have never seen any for sale - i cerainly dont think lighter feeding will hurt them for a while, you could try some small floating food rather than flakes i ave heard of them playing with peas tossed in a tank for them...

good luck

edit: 3 three posts prior to mine were all written while i was typing....

Hi Andy, and thanks Wilder.
The deed is done, I've put her out of her misery :(

My lfs has a few different types rainbows, they are beautiful aren't they, this is the first time I've kept them. I'm just gonna keep my eye on her mouth for the moment, hopefully if there is something wrong the melafix will help.

Can you tell me the name of the food you mentioned Andy so that I can ask for it by name, it says in my book that they do eat flake as well as other stuff, but these two deffinately aren't liking the flake!

Wilder, can you suggest a different veg that they might be interested in please?

Sproats, cabbage, broc.

I just cook them all like normal, take the outer leaves of the sproat and cut the bottom of them I chop the sproat up into small bits.
Broc just cut the green floret off with scissors and cut that up into small peices.

My fish love sproats, even the tetra's they go mad for it.

i tend to use various types of floating foods from several manufacturers... king british, hikari, tetra.. hikari do make floating pellets in various sizes, mostly sold as cichlid food though i tend to find most fish enjoy them
varying the foods every week or 2 keeps them on their toes so they dont get used to eating just one thing and get stuck in a rut with no variety.

sorry about your platty

Thanks, I hate having to put them to sleep :(
I will have a look a my lfs next time I go for the floating pellets and give them a go.
The rainbows are looking good now, although still refusing flakes, they have white mouths anyway, so maybe I was panicking, I've continued with the melafix though as a precaution - the barbs seem to be settling down now and their tail fins are looking much better.

The male platy is still in the hosp tank, its weird really, most of the day he is active, feeding well but at nights he always seems to rest in the top corner of the tank with his fins clamped - I don't know whether there's anything wrong with him or not, but I'll give him the full treatment of Sterazin , which as you say is around 10 days.

Joanne
