Hi. Have bought a new aqua one euro 300 and I'm planning methodically setting it up to get it right from the outset. I have used tetra complete planting substrate topped off with a red clay look alike that is very light weight in my current 250ltr discus tank. I'm looking for some advice on good planting substrate. I'll have pressurized co2, t5 lighting, mainly r/o water balanced with tropic marin pro discus mineral, and dosing with aquagro nutrafeed, as I do at the moment. Now, I have read what's available on here and know alot favour cat litter. My local aquatic shop, and a good mate working there is advising a clay based substrate sold in buckets, forgotten name sorry, but its £120 for enough to give me a 2" layer. It also needs a "cleansing" period as initially it leaches ammonia, tho this may assist my fishless cycle.
Any advice or suggestions would be most welcome as I don't know wether to go with a nutrient rich substrate or simply something that readily aids planting and looks ok.
