Yay i got a new tank for xmas wooooooo 125l with stand etc..

The question is i have been given some flora base substrate and i was wondering if it was ok to put sand ontop of it so it was better for my corys???

Please HELP

Rich

I don't see why not! Not had any experience with it though, so you should maybe wait until someone with some comes along!

i have tryed it without the sand and i think it looks good, also seems soft so corys should be ok.....
Now to plan the fish and plants for it.... 125l to go at lol

I'd put this in the plants and planted tanks section. I guess you're putting down a good base to grow plants in? I think George Farmer might help you with this one, or on of his compatriots on this subject.

As far as I know that's a good start for a planted tank but mix the flora with gravel before putting the sand on top. and only 1" to 1½" of sand to keep the deadly spots to a minimum.

Ask the experts in that section though

Don't then when u do a gravel vacum it will alll mix together??

Sorry new to the whole fish keeping seen as i too was thinking of a black sand base.

correct. if you have an under gravel filter then you need to use grave, hence the name. smaller particles will get into the filtration system making it a bu**er to clean, but if you use other filtration internal or external, then you can mix your flourite with gravel, add a 1 inch layer of play sand or pool sand over the top, and plant away.
