Substrate Help.

hi, after recently removing all the sand from my 1000 litre tank, because it kept getting sucked into my filters im stuck on what to replace it with.
i have decided i might go for a solid black substrate, but i need it to be fine enough for the rays to bury in it, but too heavy to leave the base and get sucked up the filter.
any ideas?
preferably no more than 2mm grains, but needs to be too heavy to lift too far off the ground and preferably solid black.

the only black sand i can think of is one my LFS sells, but its very fine, like powder and that would just blow all over!

have you seen Tahtian (sp) moon sand?

yeah i have been looking at that, my lfs is getting in a bag for me to look at, he has some nice black sand/gravel, about the right sized grains i want but it didn't look smooth so can't risk it with the rays.
i will see this tahtian sand when it comes on tueseday, its about £25-£30 a bag though, and to fill my tank will cost me a couple of hundred i reckan, but if it looks good i'll get that.
