When building next aquarium I was thinking about making a substrate heating.

Is anybody using such heating system and can tell me if it is worth doing it?

Do I need some additional standard submersible heater or the well-made substrate heating system will be enough for the whole 500L aquarium I want to have?

Thanks in adsvance :)

Don't know much about these heating systems but have read they hinder live plants....worth bearing in mind if you're wanting live plants.

They can be enough, but have had issues in the past with unreliability. Plants are reported to be better or worse depending on who you ask.

Generally people have ended up going back to standard heaters, or, if they want to hide them, a sump heater or an inline external.

I have a 100W unit on a 240L tank. it does not seem sufficient to keep the water warm, so I use a 300w inline heater instead.

Re plant health, I can't see the difference with the previous tank I had, so wouldn't use it again
