Substrate Change

I may change my tank's substrate from sand to gravel. i understand this will put my tnak into another mini-cycle. if i used my old filter media and saved about 50% of the old water, then the tank should be ok right? the fish should live..?

I would have to wash the tank out to remove all of the sand.

When i went from gravel to sand, i had no mini cycle problems. I'm assuming you have an external filter? If so, have the filter running with your fish when you are changing over the tank

I have an external filter yes. The fish would be kept in a 5 G bucket for 30 mins-1 hr while I clean their old tank in the tub to remove the sand. That means I can preserve 50% of their water and the filter will still be intact. I'll be sure to include some rocks and such, to encourage more bacterial growth too.

just run the fitler wiht the fish and you won't have any problems, atleast i haven't.
