Sound like Sterlet A. ruthenus or Siberian Sturgeon Acipenser Baeri. Both get to approx 1m in the garden pond. Sturgeon, like large koi, need very cool water all year round. A deep, plantless, canopied pond is best, as large as you can manage. Good, efficient filtration is a must and good circulation to ensure maximum oxygen exchange. Pelleted food seems to be popular and is accepted but naturally these fish will feed on any bottom dwelling animals from fish/amphibians to molluscs/shellfish to large insect larvae. Beware of pondweed because of their inability to swim backwards, if caught up they may not be able to free themselves and can perish. B)

Te only other addition that I would add to Gibbo's comment is, as Sterlets/Sturgeons are carniverous the should be fed with a high protein peleted food and not the ordinary Koi food. you should be able to purchase the food alongside the Koi food.
BTW, it's nice to see you back on the scene Gibbo.

they have a diet of high protian sterlet food
and boy do they eat a lot of it......
i have been told now they are siberians they have grown about 2inch in 3 months

thanx guys :D
