Just saw this on Instagram. This is not my photo, and if that's not allowed I apologize.

Just broke my heart when I saw this. He was stunted, correct? Again, sorry for posting a picture that isn't mine. Just wanted to share. :(

It's actually a deformed Arowana. This deformity will have happened during the fry development phase, and not likely due to mistreatment. Normally deformed fish would be destroyed early on, but I am guessing this picture comes from Asia, and the Arowana is so revered and expensive, that the breeders will never destroy them. So not as bad as it might first appear

I hope so. Looks like it was stuck in a ten gallon and got a bent spine. :/ Poor thing. Guess he must be doing alright if he is that big though.

I've seen them like that here in Asia myself, and the first time I wondered why anyone would keep a fish like that, but then I learnt how Arowana are viewed by Asians. They almost hold a god like status, so killing one would be deemed as sacrilegious.

We have a golden orph in our pond that had a slight bend in its spine only noticed as it got older, now about a foot long and it's really noticeable but he seems happy enough
