hi ppl, im cycling my tank at the mo-getting some rock on the weekend.

before adding the rock im thinking mabie i should put something under them(and the sand)to disperse the weight, mabie use egg crates or some type of mat. is it worth doing, does it get dirty and do you do it- what do you use.?

thanks

I used egg crate I got from another member on here. It is not absolutely necessary but I just fell happier having it under the rock. I was thinking along the lines of the mbuna digging under the rocks might make them a little unsteady so then to stop that you would have to put the rocks directly onto the glass then add sand which I was also a little unsure of. I just went for peace of mind in the end and got the egg crate.

I used sand to help distribute the weight but there's also not a whole lot of rocks packed up. I do have egg-crate for whenever I decide to do some heavy stacking though.

I use filter separator for big pond filter you can pick it up at most lfs that do pond stuff as well.

Put that in first then rocks then substrate.
