A few days ago my friends cat was shot on the back fence of its home.It had its face blown in by a pellet gun.It is now deaf and blind. The owners know the people who did this and have prove but the authoritys dont want to know.I just think there should be stronger laws on incidents like this because there is no need to kill or injure someones innocent pet like that. What do you people think?

Hi dead_letters :)

I think that's just horrible. :-( The poor cat.

I don't know about the laws in the UK, but here, I think your neighbor could file a civil lawsuit against the perpetrators. It's not the same as a criminal charge, but they would still get punished by having to pay money for what they did.

You might want to have them look into that possibility. Also, if they have homeowners insurance that would include the cat as property, the insurance company might take action against them.

:grr: I agree with inchworm. My 14 year old cat Rusty was shot in the back with a shotgun about 3 years ago, he got very sick from it and I would have loved to known who had did it because I probably would have given them a taste of their own medicine.

there was one story around us about a dog that got shot and killed.

it was normal for this dog to be let outside in the morning, and he would hang out with the kids while they waited for the school bus. well, an ex-cop that lived a few houses away felt threatened by the leashless dog, and shot him. NO CHARGES WERE PRESSED AGAINST HIM!!!

you wouldn't believe how ticked off that made me. it's really unbelievable what some ignorant little dum ####s will do. sorry for my language...but it's just sooo.....  :grr: :<

I am very sorry to hear that :-(
your neibour should contact the RSPCA
08705 555999 I'm sure that they will do something
also like inchworm suggested tell them to sue

by the way inchworm FYI cats are not considered property in the UK.
they are considered as an "independent domestic animal" and cat
owners cannot be held leagally liable for any event that a cat may cause.
:D unlike dogs

I remeber about too years ago on the news some kids filmed themselves skinning a cat for a school project got arrested but they shoed part of the tape before they started killing the cat and it look so scared made me sick, I'm not sure what the laws are now anywhere but I bet their not strrict enough

I remember that VantagE. I was crying when I read the article....I felt sick to my stomach.
I believe the judge let the guy go saying that there "are worse things than killing a cat" or something. I wanted to smack him!!!! And even if the judge had no sympathy for that poor innocent cat(even though he stated that he has owned cats for years. Bla) doesn't he realize that that is a BIG warning sign? I mean usually people who start off abusing animals end up abusing and/or killing people later on.

They have to make tougher laws when it comes to animal abuse. They have no way of defending themselves from sick demented human beings.
If we aren't going to protect them...then who will?

i think it's sick for someone to do that to another animal for no reason at all. my friend's cat got shot in the butt once, and we felt bad for it, but he lived so we sorta just laughed at the way he walked for a while. they got the person who did it to pay for the surgery to remove the bb. In idaho it's actually legal to shoot an animal that's on your property, just like if there is a warning sign for humans, they can be shot too. I am normall fully and i mean REALLY against killing an animal, but there was one dog that i think had brain damage from birth (mother was a boston terrier, father was a husky/german shepard mix) it would go around killing the neighborhood cats, 2 of mine included, injured another one. but it finally attacked a little girl and had her by the throat. i think something like that is the only time an animal should just be shot like that. the rest just makes me sick.

I know that people do get jail time for animal abuse.. but that's around where I live..

there was an incident I heard about from a college friend of mine - there's a man who lives next door to her, he's a drug abuser, alcoholic and it incredibly unstable mentally. He had been in a war somewhere (not sure which war) and had seen children being murdered and it really badly affected him.

He had a dog and one day, because the dog was barking for no reason he beat the dog to death with a claw hammer and threw it into her garden  . Because he's so mentally unstable the police won't do anything - he should be commited but nobody cares!

Hi ladynaoko

That's a horrible story. Yes, I agree that he should be committed. If his judgment and self control are that bad, he's just as likely to attack a person.

apparantly he has been known to walk into peoples houses - he put a gun to my friend's mothers face and because he was so drunk she just took it off him and phoned the police (who, may I add did absolutely nothing!!)

It's not safe for him to be in society  he needs help but it looks like nobody will give it to him.
