My gourami has stringy poo aswell but he seems to be fine, did you find out if your one had a disease. I thought stringy poo was the norm for fish.

Stringy poo ...lol its a wpnder of the fish world it seems.

Having done a bit of reading up and with advise from the fish gurus of this forum it can be one of 3 things..
Internal bacteria problem... if left to long in gouramis anyhow you end up with a dead fish tends to start with stringy poo.. then goes onto swore mouth.. expected I guess as the digestive tract of most animals starts at the mouth and ends with the anus. and any disease that has affects on this can be found anywhere within this tract so its to be expected if its a gut problem it would spread to the mouth area.. (Long way round to say something simple that **SLAPS SELF ON HEAD**)
Constipation... pointed out to me yesterday that gouramis are mainly herdivours, and most fish flakes are protein based plus i feed live food also so this was also a possibility.
Expulsion of old eggs....... this one is interesting as I thought this fish was a male.. but what do i know...lol .... seems both there reproductive tract and there anus come out of the same whole .... nice ... and when they have unfertalised eggs they come out as stringy clear stuff as the eggs would have been encased in mucus... so there you go...

I get the impression it could be any of these with this fish. I have treated for internal bacteria. Given *Pea insides* for the constipation and the egg thing I can do anything about. The fish seems fine today.. poos still a little stringy and clear but generally more active and back to his/her old self I have to re treat in 3 days for the internal bacteria and i hope that is the end of the problem as this little fish is very special to me. Hes got real attitude and thoughs big eyes
