My new(ish) boy, Peacock is showing stress stripes. I don't think they were there for the first couple of days, but have been since. In the past week, I've also seen him dart away, really fast. He's not timid generally, he will come up to the glass and out to feed and I see a fair bit of him. His colours are nice and strong. This is his tank

21l, had Levi in it previously for about 17 weeks, and I kept the filter cycled with ammonia after he died. I've had Peacock since Nov 7th.
The only think I can think might cause it is my cat. She seems very interested in him and I keep finding muddy paw prints on the glass!
Do you think that could do it? And is it anything to really worry about as he seems perfectly fine apart from the stripes?
:thanks:

How long have you had him now. It takes a betta two weeks to be fully settled.

Hope he gets better soon. Silly cats, Milo was the same, either he sat on the floor Gawping at the tank or sat on the lid with his paw hanging down following the fish

Just over 2 weeks. Maybe he is just settling in. He doesn't flare either-tried him once with a mirror, but nothing
He had a split in his fin which healed within days, so I think he must be healthy, just maybe not happy quite yet?
You'd think any betta would be over the moon with that tank wouldn't you? Ungrateful beggar!

lol my cats go mad for my fish n the fish couldn't care less, but they can definitely see the cats cuz sometimes they do the feed me dance for them, so it might be the cat stressing him...

my Fish nipped the heck out of me today!

I was screwing after! Lituly!

They all rushed me and attempted to take chunks out of me!
talk about crazy fish!

Also

Hows Peacock now  i hope he feels better we all love him.. :hey:

Yes, he's feeding fine. Stripes are still there.
I noticed yesterday that the cat had knocked the back cover off where the filter is. I put it back on, but today H noticed the filter wasn't working. The little plug had come out a bit, so I think it hasn't been working for a whole day :( Stupid cat
I've got a bit of media from my other tank an added it to the filter and fingers crossed it will be OK. Done a 50% change too :good:

He's still looking fine apart from the stripes. Maybe he's just a stresshead?
