Babyfishies

Hi!
I have a 60L tank at home which is about 2-3months old. It's one through its cycling stage and I've introduced platies and guppies to it. Eveything seemed to be going fine (My platies even had babies twice!!!
) until I recently discovered tiny white beetle-like things zipping about near the bogwood I've put in. Later, during a water change, I took apart my pump and found more of them as well as very thin, white worms inside. The worms resemble earthworms in that they have a thick ring-like bit around one end. I've tried to look for a pic of what I've seen on Google images, but have found nothing that really resembles them. I've bought and tried a treatment which I've bought from my local pet shop, but they're still swimming about in there quite happily after 2 weeks. Are they gill worms of some kind and if they are harmful, how can I get rid of them? The fish don't seem bothered at all, but are still swimming about quite happily, coming up to greet me when I feed them, rather than hiding themselves... It's more a fear of the unknown than a problem that's showing symptoms but I'm hoping someone can put my mind to rest, or help me come up with a cure if its detrimental to the fish.

They are hair thin and after a few water changes they've reduced in numbers drastically 
. I haven't seen the zippy little bugs for about a week either... Over feeding does sound likely... I needed to go home and left my boyfriend in charge of the tank for a few days...
