I brought 3 Pearl Gouramis the other day (1m + 2f) and one of the females seems to be acting weird. She seems to sit around the waters surface, generally on top of the filter, most of the time unless disturbed. Her dorsal and caudal fins look pretty droopy at times.

The thing is she's eating and quite active (although still hidden) at feeding time, which makes me think she's not that ill? Could she just be unhappy or could this be an early sign of illness?

What do you folks think could be the problem?

Have you noticed any agression towards her? Is she more or less the same size as the other 2? HOw big is your tank? Is it planted and has sufficient hiding places?

All gouramis (females and males) like to lay out their own territories. Pearls are less agressive and more social as other gouramis, but the impression that I get from your description is that she doesn't feel safe at the moment, and that she is not able to hold her own in that tank.

What else have you got in there?

soz I didn't reply. (Comp was on the blink.)

She died the other day so she must of been ill. Her mouth area was looking red and sore looking and seemed to be getting much worse. Do you have any idea what killed her?

She didn't have a pimple, but her mouth looked swollen and red which also covered parts of her gills.
