someone decide for me...
i def want my tetras in the downstairs tank (when it Eventually decides to cycle :grr: ) with mollies.
But it looks like my upstairs tank will be ready first...
i want as many single fish or maybe pairs? as i can stock for the size tank. I quite like Bettas, and siamese fighting fish, blue rams...
which fish get on together?
it has sand substrate and a Aquaflow 200 with spraybar. An ornamental sunkun bell (good for breeding i spose..but im not im ready for that step yet!?) i do want to plant it out..but obviously not till the cycle is done. Which plants do you recommend???
this is the exciting bit :D

Your best bet is to put together a proposal of what you want, and post it up - you'll then get tons of advice.

It is largely down to personal preference - I would tend to suggest what I like, but you may not like what I like. Remember that many smaller fish are shoaling, so they will do much better in bigger groups - ie happier, and more natural behaviour, so if you suggest 1 or 2 of those species, you'll be advised against it.

Use it as an excuse to go browsing at your LFS(s) this weekend, write down the names of those you like, come back on here, and see who recommends what.

thing is im not sure how many a 70L will hold? The bigger size fish that is?
up till now ive been looking at tetras, platties and mollies. Mostly due to the fact i thought my first tank would cycle first! (60L)
i would like the betta, SFF and blue rams though.

What are your water parameters (pH, KH, GH, nitrate) and decor you plan to use? Will it be planted? Tank dimensions?

There are 1000s of combinations which are possible.

The tank is 24length 18Height 12wide (70L)
Ph is normally 7.5
not sure what KH is?
We have soft water here in Devon.
there is no Nirate in the normal water, wont know the end level yet though.
I plan to have a few ornaments, and plants. it has sand substrate in at the moment.

any ideas welcome x

Rams or Apistogrammas would be nice. You have to watch the temp if you want cories though. You could have say 6 cardinals aswell

Pair Ram/Apisto
6-8 Cardinals
6 Corydoras

not sure what KH is?
KH is carbonate hardness, GH is general hardness.

+1, my variation would be:
* 1m 1f dwarf cichlids of a pairing species
* 10 dwarf tetras or tall bodied tetra of one species
* 10 Corys of one species

I have a list of the specific species I suggest here: http://aquariumadventure.wordpress.com/species-for-a-60-litre-aquariums/

Forget KH, GH & Ph. Just choose some fish you like, then ask us about grouping.

The water in your LFS will be the same as yours.

ive been offered some Malawi cichlids, baby ones. how big do they grow?
i like rams. and i would like a breeding pair which dont have too many babies.
i have looked at red stoplight cardinals..they are nice and Pajama cardinals...it says they are salt water fish though???

Tetras will go in tank 1 downstairs when its ready.
i would like a bottom feeder too...are there any catfish/plec's that dont grow too big?

That still does not mean that the water is optimum for the fish. Some species, like rams, for example, need soft water in the long term. In hard water (even if they have adapted to it), they are still not as healthy, usually.

Too big. You'd want a 3-4 ft tank as a minimum, depending on the species. Shell dwellers, as

You won't be able to control how many times they spawn, but fry are unlikely to survive in a tank with other fish.

Marine fish.

Dwarf Corys are bottom feeding catfish and suitable. Have you looked at that list I linked to? I recommend you do.
