I am looking to get a pair of rams or apistos for my 20g. I am not sure what type to get (i like german blues). Any suggestions as to where to buy a pair would be appriciated.

Thanks

Where abouts are you from? We should be able to find you a good shop :)

A pair of Blues or a trio of Apistos would work nice - just seen some Electric Blue Rams today and WOW o WOW I need some of them in my life!

I reckon they will be quite a weak fish though as a strain so you would need to keep them 100% by the book - so get them in low Ph and high temperatures - ideal tank mates would be Rummynose Tetras and Sterbai Cories - if you can find a list of fish that people reccomend to go with Discus it would be ideal as they have similar requirements - though I think Rams would not need RO water.

But its upto you really - which species do you like?

Sorry, i have been away for awhile. I am from salisbury, MD and all the lfs around me dont seem to have them. I prefer rams and especially like german blue rams and any of the powder blue varieties of rams. My ph is around 6.8 so it should be ok. As for gh, i know it is around bordline soft but not sure of exact perameter. Any help on a website that will not kill me with shipping or a breeder would be appriciated.

Thanks

When you say Salisbury MD do you mean America? If so sorry Im in the UK not sure of any fish shops in the US - a good breeder in the US though is Jeff Rapps and he does post but not sure how much it all is as postage to the UK is £250 so I just sit and drool.... lol

But if you can get the electric blues where you are and you like them go for it! Your Ph is perfect for them and you just need to keep them in high temperatures (28c)

Maybe start a topic in the general freshwater section asking for good shops or breeders in your area though :)

Jman- you really are down the bottom of the peninsula and its not easy to get any place from there. I can suggest a store in Baltimore, a vendor or two in PA as well as Jeff Rapp in New Jersey http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/. You can also check on AquaBid.com, just be sure the sellers have been around a while and have good feedback.

Also Check Ted Judy's site http://tedsfishroom.com/. He has great quality fish and speaks at a lot of functions. There you will also find links to apisto and cichlid forums where folks always have things offered for sale.

Thanks guys, i think i will keep an eye on aquabid but i just saw some cribs at my lfs that i and might get if i cant find anything else.
