I will have a 14gallon freshwater aquarium cycled already avalible soon for me to put new fish in it . I was wondering what small tropical fish can I have in it and how many

May I suggest that you have a browse around your local shops, and see what you like the look of. Make a note of the names, and come back on here, where a lot of people will offer you a lot of advice on what will and won't work.

A couple of points to note.

Many smaller fish are schooling varieties, so although they are small, you ought to keep them in large groups, which then restricts what else you can stock.

Also, some fish, particularly some species of plec (catfish) start off small, but grow VERY large, and it's difficult to visualise this when they're in the LFS tanks.

I hope this helps.

I want small colorful schooling fish like guppies, danios, tetras, and minnows but I was wondering exactly what kind and how many I can have
Thanks

I would say swords and definitely mollies get too big. Danios might appreciate more swimming room but I'll defer to someone else with a bit more knowledge about that.

Bear in mind that the types of fish you've named all prefer being around others of their own kind, so that's about six minimum. So probably about 2 different types of small fish in decent schools will be your limit.

I don't see any problems with platies, some types of small tetras like neons, white cloud minnows, or guppies. Or maybe something like some male endlers, which have great colours, or some of the tinier rasbora for a 'nano' style :)

Here is a plan.

Get guppies. 1 male & 2 female.

They breed like rabbits so within 2 months you will have a tankfull of them.

Can I keep 1 Betta 3 danios 3 sarpae tetras 3 male guppies and 1 Otocinclus catfish

No to guppies straight off, IMO they're too much of a risk with a betta. Endlers should be fine though.

Serpae tetras are known to have a higher risk of fin nipping so I would avoid them too. Also, any fish you get (tetras, danios, otos) need to be in schools of 6+ so I wouldn't get just one or three of anything.

A betta, a school of otos and a school of endlers or more peaceful tetra would look lovely though.

Hi,

I personally wouldn't keep endlers with a fighter or guppies as they do have a habit of fin nipping no matter what size shoal they are in (housemate had them with guppies hence the word of caution). Why not swap the endlers for oto's as they will eat the algae that grows in the tank.

It;s up to you really as I know a few people on this board (including me) keep endlers with male fighters and have no problems, but fighters tend to be very much the individuals so you never really know till you get yours :D

Bamboo shrimp are peaceful enough but do be warned that they feed directly from the water current so you'll need to have quite a lot of water movement in your tank which isn't ideal for the fighter.
