Stocking Question

Hello,

I am just in the process of setting up my new tank and would like suggestions on stocking as id like a change from mollies, guppies etc.

I bought it off ebay as a 120l bow fronted tank although i think it looks bigger than a 120l (will measure it later to check).

It came with sand in it which i am in the process of giving a good wash.

Any suggestions are welcome

I will be moving my fish from the smaller tank into this one (it is def a 120ltr). I currently have:

6 neon tetras (planning to increase to 12)
4 male guppies
1 dalmation molly
1 queen of arabesque plec

Hi,

New tanks looking good.

Are you going to be transferring the filter media from your old tank over to your new tank along with your fish?

Unfortunately i cant as my old tank is a Juwel with a fixed filter. I am trying a few things suggested by people on here like washing the sponges in the new tank along with a normal fishless cycle.

Cant wait to get it up and running and stocked!!

I would go for something like
3 apisto 1m 2f
10 corys
12 neons
4 guppies
1 molly
1 Plec
1 twig catfish, whiptail cats or 3 banjo cats

really like the twig catfish though!

There fairly easy to get but you might have to ask your lfs to order them in. Or a group of upside down catfish or 2 spot catfish would work

Or a pair of smaller plecs instead but make sure theres alot of hiding places or the plec you have will bully them and make sure you spread food all over the tank so the plec doesnt eat all the food

my plec is so shy! iv only had him a few weeks but he spends alot of time hiding, until i turn the lights off and drop some food in!

I was thinking of a diffrent plec sorry. That wont be a bully it might be a little terretorial. I would try and get a few more maby 3 or 4

Jenni,

you should be able to transfer your sponges across from your old juwel filter and put them inside your new filter (even if you have to cut them up a little) this will be the best way to avoid having to cycle the tank from scratch as the media will already contain enough beneficial bacteria to cope with the current bioload.

Well the occupants of my 60l have now been moved over to the 120l (after constant readings of am 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 10, ph 7.4) and they all seem to be settling in well.

Now i need to concentrate on looking for something to go in with them as they look a little lost in the bigger tank!!

Bolivian Rams are a possibility as are some form of gourami but there are so many beautiful fish out there that i really dont know where to start!!
