Here's the details

60l Tertra Aquaart planted tank (see photo bucket for a couple of pics)

http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...s/Fish%20Tank/

Its been set up since March and I cycled with fish (with hindsight maybe not the best decision, but my water parameters remained very stable) and whats done is done - thankfully no casualties.

I currently have 3 x platies and 3 x guppies and my plan for the remaining stocking is 6 peppered corys and 2 dwarf gourmais - 14 fish in total.

Anyway, i'm pretty set with this and I'm hoping within the next couple of weeks to add the next fish.

Which should come first? Corys or gouramis? Bearing in mind i'd be adding 6 corys so I realise ammonia levels may increase moreso than if I started with the 2 gourmais.... and i'm not sure which of the species is more hardy....

Cheers

Dan

Agreed. Cories next. Theyre hardier than most gourami species. Just keep an eye on ammonia and nitrite levels on a daily basis from adding them. You may have to do 10% water changes every other day to keep levels stable.

:good:

They also will clean any poop thats sticking out or thats laying on the gravel.

that's not true, cories are not detritevores, they will eat up any uneaten food but will not eat poo

but yes cories need to go in first, DG's are notoriously weak

Feeding - Flake foods, sinking tablets, live or frozen brineshrimp are all eagerly taken. Bloodworm are particularly relished. Tubifex, white and blackworm are also taken but care should be taken when feeding tubifex as it can easily foul the water.

where there does it say they eat poo?!?

there are no freshwater detritevores (i.e. animal/creature that eats poo, as opposed to carnivore, herbivore etc) commonly available in teh aquarium trade.

no fish will do your work of gravel vaccing

So no fish eats the poop so "forum+LFS worker=bad"?

 correct

unless we start talking about saltwater in which there are various crabs, shrimp, snails etc that you can get which do eat poop.

but for freshwater there is no such thing commonly in the trade

I asked the LFs worker if there is any fish that eats poop and he said cories, and i was about to buy one!

yet more proof you should always do your own research

Bottom dwellers often will "bite into" some solid waste. I guess it looks like a worm, but they're pretty quick to spit it back out.
