Current stock will be:

1 x Red Tiger Oscar (currently 1.5", max size 14")
1 x (female) GT (currently 3.5", max size 8-10")

I am pretty much certain of getting a bichir as well, probably Polypterus palmas (Marbled) or Polypterus ornatipinnis (Ornate) or Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri (Tiger), depending on availability/cost.

Any ideas/suggestions for anything else middle level/top level?

Tank will have a sand substrate, plenty of rocks/caves/wood and silk plants. Tank size is 5x2x2. Filter will be at least a Fluval Fx5.

No ideas?

Oh well, I'm sure I'll have plenty of feedback if I decide on an incompatible fish  (don't worry, I'm only joking)

sorry ive nothing usefull to say on the stocking score, but is that your oscar in your avatar?? he/she is beautiful, such stunning markings :)

yay another 150us...what do you really like? look at my stocking

Would be nice to have another cichlid. Was thinking of a severum but unsure how it would be. My GT is pretty docile, so could be worth a try.
Or some sort of shoaling species like silver dollars.

Thank you, yes that's my greedy little chap - he's grown already since that pic was taken :hyper:

1 x Polypterus ornatipinnis
1 x oscar
1 x green terror<watch for fighting, still possible in tank that big
6 x red hook silver dollar
4 x hoplo catfish

and as you said you could try a severum, but watch them...

all i have in mine is the chocolate cichlid and channa pluero which are the true predators.compared with others

Thanks, I really like the red hooks. They're a bit expensive though

So...
1 x Polypterus
1 x Oscar
1 x GT
6 x Red Hook Silver Dollars

I'd probably leave it at that for a bit, but could I add anything else if I wanted to?

well in my tank i have

1 very large gibbicep plec
4 silver bala sharks
1 spotted silver dollar
4 pim pictus catfish
1 senegal birchir
1 chocolate cichlid
1 channa pluero
and lots of rocks/wood and plastic plants

granted the bala sharks have grown big,red hooks round my way are cheap but my problem is there round 1.5-2inches, a nice snack for my snakehead..hehe otherwise i would change the bala's for redhooks as they max out alot smaller, but giving the sharks to my lfs which is only one able to handle big fish,he wouldnt hesitate selling them to someone with a two foot fish tank..so there better of with me til someone comes along

I do like the snakeheads, but was advised against them with my current stock and that they were sub-tropical so were a no go for me. Would be nice to have one though.

Maybe I'll try:

1 x Oscar
1 x GT
1 X Gold Severum
1 x Polypterus
6 x Red Hook Silver Dollars

The Oscar and GT will be in there first, I will then wait for a few weeks until I get anymore fish. What one should I add next do you think?

They have a couple in Wildwoods at 6-8cm at £14.95. I think I may take a trip to Swallow Aquatics at the weekend and suss out some prices.

Think I'll defo try the Sev, if worse came to worse he could always go in my 190L until I rehomed him. Read some other people keep them with GT's successfully, and my O wasn't going to be a problem, just the GT possibly.

Not all Snakeheads are sub tropical there are tropical ones but it's always best to keep them in species tanks in my opinion.
