Hey Everyone!!:)

I finally got my 27g tank up and running and cycling.Took a while lol.

So i was wondering if you guys could give me some stocking ideas for my tank.
Any suggestions?

(not dwarf cichlids. to hard to find around me:D)

Thanks:Garett

Dwarfs are the only SA cichlids that would work in that size sorry. Maybe one firemouth with a school of tetras and some small catfish.

I have to disagree. YOu could put a pair of convicts,or a firemouth. Have you thought about keyholes? I know that they are dwarfs, but they seem to be more common where I live than other dwarfs. You could also go with Lake Tanginyika shell dwellers, but those are even more rare where I live.

Thanks Guys,

I was thinking about a pair of convicts for my tank.
Would it be big enough?

Or would it e better to get keyholes?

thanks:Garett

Either would be okay IMO. You would get more tank mates with the keyholes.
With the Cons you might be able to do a small group of swords or platies and a small tough plec but this could be quite risky and does depend on the individual convicts temperments. If you want a better chance of success maybe try and get some HRP :)

With the keyholes you would be able to have quite a normal stocked comm tank with things like tetras and cories, pencil fish etc

I think that you might be able to have one keyhole, and a pair of Apistogramma, or Bolivian rams. What are the dimensions of the tank? You could have an angel with a pair of apistogramma or rams.

Hey wills what are HRP's?lol sorry dont know. And what does IMO mean too?
(sorry im alittle on the stupid side )

I think i might go with convicts.easier to find.
(Cheaper)

Apistogramma are very rare around here and rams.
I might be able to get rams but i dont really like them as much as convicts.

How easy are convicts to sex?
(at petland they are about 3-4")

HRP are honduran red points, similar to convicts but better colours, smaller and less agressive.
IMO = in my opinion

But if you like convicts go for it :) I would recommend having a fry/issolation tank for you to move the female too after breeding as the male can get quite nasty, I have had a lot of bad luck with females being killed by males because the males wanted to mate but the female did not so they would run and hide and get stressed and then disease would set in and yeah. Its best to have a back up option should they fall out.

Females are much smaller than males and have pointier faces where as males have rounded foreheads and the starting of a nuchal hump. Females also get red bellies in a similar way to kribs.

Wow those HRP's look quite similar to convicts before they color up!

Now i dont know what to get because i dont want a dead fish if they have fry.hmmm......i will check out those HRP's.
Or i might just go with some africans.

But any other options???
(besides apistogramma,keyholes,etc.)

Quite a lot of dwarf cichlids suitable, before you rule out apistos all together its a massive family with a lot of variety in there. Including the line bred ones as well

Dwarf acaras like Laetacara sp. Buckelkopf ;) Or Krobia sp. Red Cheek or any of the laetacaras or krobias, inca stone fish, any of the nannacaras.

With the breeding pair an other option is a tank divider which can separate them in the same tank its only for like a few days while the male calms down or the female gets ready again. Just be aware though breeding fish grow a lot slower than non breeding because they are putting the efforts into making the stuff like eggs etc.

Thanks...

Still thinking lol.
ummm.....
