i'm thinking of re-homing my female acara and adding some new fish, so my final list will be

fish i already have
1 male blue acara
1 angel
2 red rams

and i plan on getting
1 keyhole
1 rainbow cichlid

i would also like to try and find a T. Elioti
i think that might overstock my 150l(roughly 40gal) tank though
or maybe too many bottom dwellers?
thoughts?

i think i would add a couple moree angle fish otherwise i think you might have to many bottom dwellers but i dont know much about chiclids so dont just go on what i say

The average rule is 1 inch of fish (when fully grown and minus the tail) to 1 gallon of water, although this all goes out of the window with larger fish like oscars etc.

What bottom dwellers do you have?

Adding more angels may well lead to infighting, angels can be quite aggressive to each other.

Unless you want to breed stick to one of each species and you can add a few more, Keyholes and rainbow cichlids are relatively peaceful but it depends how big the acara is already? If he's only weeny you should be ok, once they're bigger most cichlids are quite territorial.

yeah i used to have more angels but when they started breeding they practically tore eachother apart.
thats all my fish in the first post. theres nothing else, the bottom dwellers incule the red rams, but the acara spents most time near the bottom and i imagine a keyhole and ellioti would also
the acara is 4" but i don't think it will bother any other fish as long as i remove the female.
but do you think the temperament of a T. Elioti would work in this community setup?

althugh i worked out that combined this list ads up to 33" of fish

Ellioti are relatively peaceful unlike their relative the Meeki, however, I think your already stocked for a 40g tank. The acara would be better off in a 55g, reaching 8" (I know its more likely 6") a 40g tank doesnt really give enough space for territory and believe me as he grows he will become more aggressive, not seriously aggressive like a GT, but still aggressive enough, particulary to the rams.

So if you removed the acara, then you would be ok with the angel (Wouldnt add another), rams, then you could add keyholes or rainbow cichlid, plus use some dithers, such as tetras, barbs or smaller rainbows like praecox.

yeah i'm thinking 10 lemon tetras, they're pretty cheap/awsome :p

well its easy to re-home the rams when the acara gets too big. i might even be getting a new tank by the time he gets near that size, and at the moment he ignores the rams.
