Stocking For A 55 Gallon :)

i am going to get a 55 gallon aquarium with an external filter
i was wondering what type of fish i can get?
i don't want small fish i want some biggish ones.. e.g. 6 inches
could i go bigger than 6 inches?
i was going to get an oscar but they are very messy and just poop all day long so that is a no no.
so any ideas on the stocking for the tank and maybe any advice

6 festivum looked really nice! Mine got to be about 5 inches! And they fill the tank nicely! They are a community fish so I had them with Cory's, and dwarf parrots! They will eat neon tetra's and other small fishes though!

You probably want African Rift Lake cichlids then. If the tank is 120cm/48 inches long, then you should be able to keep 6inch fish, but not any larger.

You could try a community with a pair of cichlids and some Congo Tetras, if you prefer planted.

well at the moment i am deciding between a 55 gallon or a 4ft tank which i dont actually know how many gallons there is...i am more than likely to get the 4ftx2ftx1ft tanl
i would like some cichlids.
i really like eels too..e.g. fire eel or tire track but they won't go in a 4ft tank would they?

Closest thing you can comfortable home long term in a 4-foot to an eel is a GROUP of Weather Loaches (as in five or six). They need some current (so aim for 8x or more the volume of tank) and slightly temperate water temps of around 22C.

My sig will give you some other ideas of what can suit such conditions, although some may get too big for a 4-foot

i am thinking of putting convict cichlids in it?
would i be able to put other cichlids in it.. maybe bigger a bigger cichlid that can handle the convicts aggressiveness?
any ideas? for a 4ft tank?
i was thinking severum but they get too big, maybe a green terror
