So. Hehe. Firemouth, though little, has shown more personality in the little time I've had him compared to my pictus, that I had to make a choice. Bye bye pictus. So, now that I've decided to send the pictus on his way, I'm trying to figure out what all can go in with the firemouth. I was thinking about penguin tetras, I just bought a bristlenose tonight so that's going in there, and all the guppies from the ten gallon, but I don't know what else would be good. I know I already asked almost the same question, but without the pictus I wasn't sure if the variety I can choose from would open up more. It doesn't have to be schooling, just so long as it won't do anything much to the fire, and he can't do anything much to them.

Thanks!

well, in my guess those guppy's wont last a second after that firemouth hits about 2-3".... and they are more aggresive than it seems... it sounds like your trying to keep them in a communnity, wont work very well dude

The guppies are supposed to be food. I just wanted to get them out of the ten gallon, so I could use that to grow out my guppy fry, then keep some of them in the ten and throw the rest in with the firemouth, wait till they have loads of fry and then throw them in the thirty.... Just keep the cycling going. It's other fish that I was wondering about.

Tall thirty (as in two feet tall, two feet long and a foot wide). Good filter, water changes don't scare me so water will be good. (heard a lot about tall tanks being bad, so figured I'd let you know) I was just hoping getting rid of my pictus would open up some more options stock wise.

A good cichlid tankmate would be a few rainbow cichlids  They are about as aggressive as FMs, but only reach 4 inches :D I have 6 juvie rainbows (From a half an inch to 2 inches, all hatched within a few days of eachother) in a 55g with an Uaru and 3 Ctenopoma acutirostre (Also juvies) The rainbows follow me like a bunch of starving puppies, and they usually get the Uaru and one or two of the ctenopoma to join in! It's a very odd looking school

All that said, rainbow will breed easily and make great parents, they will also eat most foods (Plant matter is good too) Good luck wth the tank and whatever choice you do make :D

Here are my juvies!...They're somewhere in all those eggs :p :

Cool!! I didn't think I could fit any more cichlids in the tank, but this is awesome! Yee, now I gotta go find out more about them! Thanks guys!

edit: Got so excited I forgot to ask how many I should get!

I would say 1-3, if you want them to breed, but 1 or 2 would be good if you don't want them to breed. (Mature males have pointed dorsal and anal fin, females don't) @ males could get aggressive, try to get 2 females :)

yu could add two male bolivian rams. its so awsome to see them fight, nothing serious though, and they make really good tank mates with firemouths, well atleast mine do

If I get them I'd have to order them, and they send me whatever they net out, so I really don't have a choice. Still waiting to find out about the firemouth.... Trying to decide on dark blue gravel or pink..............

 Just kidding, if I ever put pink in my tank you guys have my permission to shoot me. So would blue rams work, or just bolivians? I just want a back-up plan in case I find out they don't carry rainbows.

bolivians

theyre bigger in size then blue/gold rams and are more agrrsive so will be able to withstand the firemouth
