hi thanks for replying.

i have 2 internal filters 1 is 2000lph other is 850lph.
approx 50% twice weekly WC.
theres never any poo or anything on the sand. i know bristlenose are classed as messy but other fish i have listed are? thanks xx

It looks a lot because of the snails and shrimps. But I would still leave out the Molly, they can be problematic and are a reasonably large fish so I would think of leaving it out.

The other thing is, Whiptails are not comparable to Otos at all - I have 3 Whiptails and the smallest is about 7 inches. I have to ask though - why are you getting all the snails and shrimp and the ottos? Are these all intended as a clean up crew? If so I would think of thinning it because snails are messy creatures and adding fish like otos or whiptails to do clean up jobs just takes up room IMO. I would just get in there with an algae scraper.

For me a better stocking of a 170 would be

3 x Dwarf Gourami
3 x Dwarf Platy - when you say dwarf? Can you explain are they stunted platys or a different species of livebearer with this name?
6 x Five Banded Barb
6 x Neon Dwarf Rainbowfish
6 x Kuhli Loach
6 x Cory Trili
1 x Bristlenose

3 x Amano Shrimp
3 x Red Cherry Shrimp

5 x Pink Ramshorn Snail
5 x Black MTS

Depending on the size of the shrimp you get, i have to warn you that the Amano shrimp i have originally seen my smaller Red Cherry Shrimp as a "3 for £10" mid-night snack..not a nice sight!

Terry.

snails and shrimp are because i like them, otos because i think there great and would add more character to the tank. i saw the whiptails in my lfs and they where in with the otos but to be honest i didnt realise they got that big, i havent done the research on them yet.

thanks for the heads up.

the dwarf platy were labelled as sunset coral dwarf platy, but upon research i think they may be the same as the 'balloon platy' they are somewhat smaller then the other platies i have seen and are a slightly different shape but i think they are still classed as xiphophorus maculatus. i will try to get a picture. they give a nice contrast to tank they are the colour of the neon dwarf rainbows fish's fins, a nice deep bright orange.

so after taking yr advice how does this sound

6 kuhli
6 neon dwarf rainbow
6 cory trili
6 5 band barb
3 dwarf gourami
3 dwarf platy
3 otos
1 bristlenose

5 ramshorn
5 mts
1 nerite

3 amano
