I currently have a 15 gallon tank with 4 tiger barbs, 1 balloon Molly, and 1 platy. I forgot the length of the tank but I'll type it up later and all I know is that it's a long 15 gallon tank. What other fish could I put in there with my other fish???

The tiger bards will make it difficult to stock the tank because they nip fins. I'd suggest you get some more platies. Wonderful fish. Or, you can try some tetras, possibly.

I'd get a more tigers, tbh.

As Neomeris says, it can be quite hard to find tankmates for tiger barbs. I've tried keeping mine with; neon tetras, silvertips, black phantoms, various plecs, platies and swordtails, zebra loach and cories over the years, and only the zebras and plecs have worked out  All the others were either stressed out or nipped in the end :(

I'm honestly aiming more at rehoming the tiger barbs. The tank seems a tad on the small side for those little monsters. The dominant of the group may end up taking over the tank if it feels too crowded in. And given their activity levels, I'd say anything smaller than a 30 inch long tank shouldn't be used for tigers.

Also gonna have to agree with the nippines of the barbs. They even nip at my catfish at times. The only fish they know to steer clear of is my firemouth.

Any fish that you put with the tiger barbs has to be fast. But that dosn't mean you can put any fast fish in. I would put some more Tiger Barbs in first to reduce the chances of nipping of other fish.

:)

Doesn't work. Tiger barbs are always nippy, regardless of numbers. Mine actually got more aggressive when I added to the group.

When you re home the tiger barbs the tanks will be open to all sorts of possibility! I just got some really great ember tetras, such a nice red color, those could live happily with the live bearers. Just keep in mind they need carotene to maintain their stunning color, so they need brine shrimp. You'd defiantly have enough room to add more fish.

I agree those Tiger Barbs are a problem waiting to happen. Save yourself some grief and rehome them. Then you could get some good community fish.

Well my barbs haven't done anything to my other fish since iv had them and thats about a month now. Tigers sometimes chase other tigers but not alot and I haven't seen signs of fin nipping.

Listen to the collective voices of much experience. :good: Most likely the Tiger Barbs will at some time start nipping. None of us wants to suggest other tankmates because of that fact. We can't even suggest other types of fast moving fish, due to the other slower tankmates and size of the tank. Not trying to be mean or anything, just stating the facts. It's a bummer that all fish don't get along, or sometimes do for a little while, then their true colors come out when you least expect it. It is possible that your Tiger Barbs will remain calm and not nip, but that would be the exception, not the norm.

I agree with creeker. I wanted tiger barbs when I first started but found out that they are very nippy, so I switched up my stocking plans. I think most members here have tigers in a species only tank, and MIGHT have a bottom dweller in there, but certainly not cories. Sorry. I've heard kribs can work, but your tank isn't large enough for a krib.

If I notice any nipping then I'll take them back to the store...

I don't think that you have to return them, you could keep them and return the others. I would just stick to a species only tank with them. They are great fish, in my opinion, but just not very good tank mates.

A month isn't a long time. Chances are your tigers are still young and innocent. Give them a few months more and they'll be a real pain in the #17#####. I can only keep mine with bigger fish that can beat them up if they miss-behave. But your tank lacks room for fish like that.

Absolutely. I if you think tank has an empty feel to it, then add some plants. Also you may try some ghost shrimps, snails or kuhli loaches. :good:
