Went to the LFS and saw something unusual. I was walking down the freshwater fish tanks and found a stingray in one of the tanks. I think it's body was about 4 inches? in diameter and had about a 6 inch long tail? I read the card below the tank and it said "Tea Cup Stingray". I know there are freshwater stingrays, but I always thought they got to sizes that required swimming pools rather than fish tanks to adequately house them, which is why I figured it was probably a saltwater fish they had just put in a tank to sell. Has anyone heard of this species? Is it a freshwater ray and can anyone give advice on what it needs because I know nothing about them.

Please note that I haven't bought the ray. It just looked interesting and I feel up for a challenge and wanted to know things like minimum tank size.

I only know a little as I am researching them my self for future plans, but yes there are some small ish growing freshwater rays the one you saw was still a baby though. Depending on species some max out at 8 inches wide I believe? But a minimum tank size is considered 6 foot long by at least 30 inches wide if not 3 foot wide. But like I say thats minimum.

Smallest ray is around 10-12 inches , most get around 16+inches going up to over a few feet . Tank size would be 6x2x2 for the smallest , ideally 30inch wide if not wider

okay then, thank you for the replies! So I'm guessing the minimum is about 150 US gallons so it can be comfortable? Sadly I don't have the space for a tank that large right now, but the ray is definitely on my list for the future!
