Hi,

To cut a long story short I think I may have tranferred a fungal infection to my Butterfly tailed Black moor when I netted it a few days ago whilst moving my fish over to a new cycled tank. I happened to notice that the side that was effected was where it was resting on the net i used to transfer the fish. None of the other Goldfish seem to be effected other than one of my Comets that has tearing now in the tail fin.

my question is is it safe/advisable to every now and again stick all my kit like nets, gravel vacuum's, sponges, pipecleaners etc in a solution of Milton? Will this minimise the risk of cross contamination.

Cheers
Tony

Won't do any harm as long as they are washed thoroughly before use.

I would have thought it would be standard practice after any illness in the tank anyway, I've never had to deal with an illness so never come across this scenario myself.

That's the thing, it was months ago since I used that net for transferring anothe Goldfish from my dad's tank to a hospital tank that had similar fungal growth. Since then i've used the net on many fish but the Butterfly Tailed Black Moor is the only one that has shown any signs of this growth.

I could be wrong, that it wasn't transferred using the net. Ordinarily I used to just wash the net with cold water relying on the Chloramine/chlorine to clean it.

What do others do? I assume you all wash your kit somehow.
