Right, a recent thread got me thinking,

Ill be stocking my tank with 6 harlequin rasboras and 6 sterbai corys.

If i add the rasbora then leave the tank to mature, ill have an ammonia spike when i add the corys, right?

So im thinking, could i get away with adding the corys in when my tanks done, after ive made damn sure its cycled properly?

Fishless cycle by the way...

tbh m8 if the tank IS fully cycled your fine to add them straight away, so many people have the misconception of them needing a mature tank?... ive added various cory's to brand new cycled tanks and never lost any. The ones to stay away from are panda cory's they dont do so well fullstop IME so there not really a cory to add untill it is a little more mature :)

hope that helps

Ahh, well as they're quite sensitive i was thinking about making my qualifying week, 2 weeks of clear results just to be sure. Sound ok?

I was told they needed a mature tank, although i still cant see whats different about a mature tank, and people ive asked dont seem to know either... :S

People think they are sensitive m8, ive found them one of the hardest fish ive kept :)

always best to make sure the cycle is fully finished to be on the safe side but they will be fine.

Thanks.

Now i dont have to worry about spikes... unless the new fish produce more than 5ppm of ammonia

Nah m8, shouldnt be any worries of that 5ppm is a fully stocked tank estimate so in theory you could fully stock the tank straight away.... i personally wouldnt but thats why the level is at 5ppm when cycling.

good luck with the sterbai anyways .. one of my fav cory's :)

Hmm fully stocked as in 1" per gallon or 2" or what? :p

i dont think that rule is relevent in most cases m8, over filtering would allow a bigger inch rule, underfilter obviously less. i would keep it as a 1" inch rule for newly cycled tank but im cautious lol

Hm, my stocking plan is 1.5"

But my filters 400l/h (i think) in a 60l tank... Im hoping thatll be ok...

stocking should be fine m8, just add them over a period of time rather than all at once.... i prefer this method even tho you could probably fully stock straight away. what is you stocking list anyways?

Cheers, im tempted to fully stock all at once, as i have to rely on other people to drive me to a shop that sells the fish i want...

I'd go for it all off the bat personally. I've stocked newly cycled tanks to 2" per gallon on normal feeding the next day, without any issues :good: Adding some now and some later makes you more prone to mini-cycles IME  This said, you can safely double your numbers in a day, assuming similar sized fish are used when doubling numbers, so adding the Harlequins and then the Sterbai shouldn't cause issues if the Harlequins are a good size :good:

All the best

Just what i wanted to hear :p

If i have the choice (which i may)

Should i go for younger fish or older?

Im thinking younger...

So stocking to 1.5" after cycling with the add&wait method will be ok?
