I am getting the aquaone aquanano 40 next week and want a statement fish to go in it. I don't want a betta as I already have one in a different tank. I need a fish that can live with platies and guppies, I don't know if I will have a big enough tank for something other than platies or guppies?
I don't mind if its not possible, but would rather know before I just buy something that isn't suitable.

Honey gourami or dwarf gourami would fit - I think having platies too would be a bit much, but a group of 6 male guppies should be ok overstockingwise, and with a group that large, they should keep themselves to themselves. If it were me, I would have a shoal of Celestial Pearl Danios or a similar nano fish.

I wouldn't suggest dwarf.. they can be right gits with guppy tails in smaller tanks...

Honey Gouramis are lovely though! I especially love the yellow ones!

I actually didn't know what a honey gouramis was until I just googled it, and me and my mum saw some at the pet shop today and I didn't think I could have one haha.i haven't decided if im going to have platies or guppies, I might have 2 or 3 of each. It will be a while before I get the fish as I want to try and aqua scape it a bit first.

I would recommend against only 3 guppies. They are very boisterous little blighters, and in a small group, they can start to single out an individual fish for particular bullying, and they can start to bully other species as well. In a group of 5 or more, this becomes less of a problem.

I got the aqua one nano 40 about 3 months ago ill post a pic soon. That tank is brilliant as far as the filter can handle double it's size the pump turns almost ten times its compacity per hour and its all hidden in the back. It looks good too.

how ever- it's small (55l) so i just got a juwel trigon 190 and the lid is the worst I've ever seen. 1 it gets that white water marks all over it and 2 there is gaps all around it. I've lost 3 x kuhli loaches and 2 guppies because they have jumped out. Mostly if you look at the tank from the front the filter pump outlet is at the top left, it pumps water towards the front glass the water then splits running along the glass in all directions mostly down and to the right ( creating a whirl in there). So the fish like to swim ( play ) in this and end up swimming past the resistance and shoot out of the gaps in the lid.

Also any plants that are put in must be done so they are not in direct contact with the whirl as all the leaves come off, they break or don't stand straight.

Hope this helps

Wow I just had this problem. Fixed it today. I had 3 male 1 female and the 2 males were bulling the other male. Female is pregenent so I put the 3 males into my new 190l from my nano 55l and bought another 4 guppies today to make 7. The female has remained in the nano alone ( with 1 kuhli loach).

do you have a pic of the top? I cant find any pictures of the top of the tank, I will probably put something on the top to cover it, I wont be able to see it from the top anyway because the stand is so high. I plan on trying to slow the flow by putting loads of sponges in it and hope that works?

my current tank has the white water mark all round it, have really hard water in shropshire. ruins everything.

I probably paid more. So that's good

well just ordered from pets at home, should be with me Wednesday or Thursday next week :D

I was going to suggest honeys too (as in my profile and sig pic)

If you meant the feeding gap, I put that at the back of the tank covering the equipment area, so nothing could jump out.

well my tank arrived with parcel force..... smashed to pieces, when I saw the state of the box coming up the drive I wasn't hopeful it would be in one piece.

I then rang pets at home to then be told I should never have been able to order it online for home delivery.... WHAT???

so parcel force will collect it tomorrow and I will not get my refund until they get it back!

I have arranged to collect one from my closest store on sunday by which time I hope I will have had my money back!!

so I will now waste my 2 days off waiting around for parcel force!!
