I will most likely be setting up a nano reef after christmas.

It is going to be 62cmx39cm and it will hold about 90L right??

Am i going to need a different type of test kit is the marine ones any different than the FW ones??

if not well then i will have to spend a fair bit on individual test kits if i cant find one that has all the tests.

62cmx39cm-tank,hood,stand,inbuilt lights,filter $290
hydrometer-$3.85
Powerhead 1200(is this enough??) $20
200w heater-$40
PH kit-$8.50
Carbonate hardness-$8.75
Ammonia-$10.34
nitrite-$8.50
nitrate-$12.40
hardness-$10.00
iron-$11.45
copper-$15.65
calcium-$15.30
phosphate-$15.20

and i'll have to upgrade the lights.

all i need to know is how much liverock do i need??

how many LPH should i have in there?

what fish do you think will best suite that type of tank??

there will eb many more questions i just cant think of them right now as im fighting with other people on another forum

ok, firstly, we can't work out the volume of your tank with just 2 dimensions lol

lets just assume it is 90 l. You need 10-20 times turnover, so that is 900lph-1800lph

LR-well you need around 12 kg I think, as 90 litres is 23 gallons

about the test kits-yes, you will need new ones, but some (not all) freshwater nitrate kits work with saltwater- I know API does.

iron-$11.45
copper-$15.65
calcium-$15.30
phosphate-$15.20

Iron- I think the test kits are really rubbish anyway so there is no point
copper- well, if you have copper, you will know because inverts won't live-so not worth it lol
calcium-good to have but I don't think it's essential to test-probably only test if corals are doing crap
phosphate-not sure

btw I do not have a reef so don't just listen to me

ok thanks for that sorry the tank height is the same size as the width.

as i already ahve a master FW test kit and it has ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and high range ph and it looks the same to marine it just has a different instruction booklet.

get your self some salifert test kits there the best on the market. a little pricey but well worth it.

you want 20X turn over in power heads.

Salifert are a brand of Test Kit they are very good

Depends on what brand you prefer, I have always used Reef Crystals & Kent but Instant Ocean is good as well

If I were you I would not bother getting the following test kits - at the moment - Carbonate Hardness, Iron, Copper or Calcium

The Main kits you will need to start with are Ammonia, Nitrite, ph, Nitrate & Phosphate & freshwater kits will not be of any use

You will be better with 2 powerheads rather than 1

What is the lighting supplied with the tank, as it may not be of any use for corals

You will need about 25lbs of Liverock

What about RO Water - you have made no mention of it
