Started The Cycle

I know, I was just asking because I have always turned my filters on as soon as i've put the water in. I'm thinking i've maybe been doing it wrong and thats why my water is still cloudy after 4 weeks.
Actually turning the filter on will help clear the water if it's just sediment from the substrate. You have to have the filter on to cycle though as the filter is what you are actually cycling (building bacteria).

Update: I can't really tell what the color on the test is cause the greens look too much alike, but I'm thinking I'm near 3-4 ppm of ammonia. The water doesn't seem any cloudier. So I'm just hoping I can get down into the light green / yellow in the next few days so I can tell it apart and get a definate reading.

So should I test for nitrite now?

guys, it seems like nothing is changing, I thought the ammonia went down but then I test for nitrite and it was perfectly light blue, which means the nitrite is at 0. why is there no progress being shown?
