Started My New Tank

right people i have my 3 foot tropical fish tank (130litre) up and running for a week and a half i ve put sand at the bottom, 6 live plants (heater,bogwood,fluval 205 external filter) the filter was second hand used for 6 months from dobbies so it would off had mature baterica in etc i let it run for a week and added two Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami 's i put them in on monday and let them settle in then on tuesday i got a ph check it was dot on 7.0 (yess) that with anything added then after that i got my ammoni and nitrates checked it was zero, i am very happy it is zero i ve ordered a adi test kit shud be comming this weekend, today i just bought a catfish Sailfin Pleco which is about 6-7 inches long was 25.00 but i bought it 10er bargain, am not adding any more fish in till next friday
so what do you think guys

But yes, have to agree with minxfishy, the pleco will outgrow the tank very rapidly.

Also you say the filter was already matured, but how long did the tank stand without an ammonia source/water? Or did you add household ammonia when the tank was just filled with water?

Also you say the filter was already matured, but how long did the tank stand without an ammonia source/water? Or did you add household ammonia when the tank was just filled with water?

how long till it outgrows the tank? and i didnt add any ammonia to the tank let the set up run for a week and a half then added the 2 dwarfs then 2 days later the pleco was added which is today have i done it right will i get any problems and should i add a air stone i was thinking to add a air pump that does 30 litre per hour

If its 7" or so now, Id say its already too large for the tank, if it isnt in a larger tank soon, then it will stunt its growth and be unhappy. Sorry but you were given bad advice, if you received any that is.

In order to keep the media alive it would have needed a source of ammonia to feed on, therefore you would have had some bacteria die off in that week, test your water daily and rise in ammonia or nitrIte, then you need to do water changes to get them down for the fish. In my signature there is a link to fish in cycling, which you could follow should this be the case and you see rises in ammonia or nitrIte.

Edit to add: The plec is a massive waste producer and will cause the ammonia to spike quicker and will require very good filtration to cope with his bio load.

wel i have a fluval 205 filter which does 205 litre per hour and my tank is only 130 litre so that should do the job shouldnt it after next week am going to add 2 fish aat a time i measure the pleco its around 5 and a half inch long my tank is 3ft.1,5,1.5. it looks small in the tank i ve put the pleco in today should i do a water change tomorrow wel i tested the water yesteday and there was no ammonia so..

It has the adult size and also the recommended minimum tank size.

It's not just about the size either, as minxfishy said, plecos are large waste producers...that, coupled with the fact the fish is oversized for your tank and filter...you will run into water quality issues.

If you can't do a water test then I would do a 20% water change just to be on the safe side.

i have the test results, ph is 7.0 nitrate is 5.0 and everythink else is 0.0
