Started Making Bubblenests, Need Advice Please.

My betta shimmer made a bubble nest the other day i accidently destroyed it when doing a water change hes started to make another now its bigger than the last one, hes done it around the small aqaurium light in the water ( i think its him because if it was the filter the bubbles would of popped already ) hes also done them in a line along the back wall of the tank lol, im just wondering how im supposed to do a water change, i dont want to ruin the bubblenest or will he just make it again, am i right in saying hes comfartable and happy because hes made it, and how do they make them?

ive never found a way of doing a water change with out destroying it my betta always gets moody with mne when i do and will sulking his cave ano only come out for air and food.

Don't worry about destroying his nest he'll continue to make them! and yep your right he is happy =] although not all bettas make them even though they are happy! its all about personality

I hope im right in saying think but im sure its mucus or something when the male blows bubbles? other than that im not too sure!

Ive been saving up and upto now i have £15 ( i jusrt save up money to spend on the fish for like live plants, decorations, treaments and anything they may need )
Next weekend im going to go pets at home, and get 2 live plants for the betta, dont know which yet but ill get some.
I have floating elodea and he seems to like resting on it!
He also has fin regrowth !

you can get live plants or silk plants mine makes bubble nests under the big leafs and lays on them and when i gets scared he hides in the middle on all the leaves or in his coconut cave

Aww thats so sweet, my betta never goes in the cave .

He will in time it took Radish a grant total of 5 mins to investigate his cave but The Captain took weeks lol. try some crypts or vallis to go in your tank.

They bubble nest by coating air they take from the surface in saliva before blowing it back out in a bubble

Bubbles use to make them all the time but since I destoryed in in a water change he hasnt made another one. Water is clean gets changed every Tuesday 25% and he gets feed his fav food twice a day, so I dont see why he wont...

Well done for him making a whole new bubbles nest and bigger than normal...

congrats! Knew your Shimmer was a happy chappy

Calcifer has attempted a grand total of two small bubble nests but since in the big tank and ruined the second one he has sulked a fair bit, the water gets more disturbed at the top of the tank now as well so thinking of floating half a plastic cup or something.

Next time he does one get some good piccys! Always like to see more pics of a pretty fishie

I keep some of the bubble nest in a plastic cup and put it back in the clean tank...I am a mummy who spoils her bettas

that is good to hear liz2! I managed to keep the first in tact, the second no chance. If he starts to make them again, will certainly give that a go to keep them intact.

Ive found syphoning instead of scooping the water out is a better way to preserve the bubble nests and then running/ trickling the water from a jug on to the furthest wall from the bubble nest to refill which will destroy as little as possible bubbles
