I get some hard algae on the tank that's both old and getting sunlight. Its does not wipe off easily. So after years of pot scrubbers and the fine scratches they leave? What did I hit on that works great? Toothpaste.
You take a cotton cloth, put a bead of toothpaste and 1: After you've drained the tank low...buff it over the glass like your sanding or using a polishing compound. Swirl and up and down. Wipe off excess left and refill tank.
2: For not drained down. Put tooth paste on cloth and ...swirl,swirl swirl. What's left use another clean cloth to get off the glass...the water will be a bit clouded but it's toothpaste..non toxic.
Its works MUCH better than plastic or nylon anything to clean you fish tank and in fact, when you drain low and go at it? It even removes fine scratches built up over years.
The Fishroom then smells minty fresh.
