Squirrel's Nano

Tank looks great, I like the video. FKNM, however, has better movie soundtracks. A word of caution, watch your guppies for a few days. It could be the long fins, but they look like they've got the shimmies to me. They're hanging around the surface a bit too much for my taste, but again, it's only 30 seconds of film, so I'm probably being overly paranoid.

They are very pretty and I apologize for the observation. I did keep fish before I kept plants.

And oh, love the mini zebra rug, Squirrel! In what room did your tank end up in?

Ha-ha! That's so funny you noticed the little zebra-thing. It's a table runner on the desk in the living room. It's across from the 55 gallon tank.

I don't have any Weird Al songs otherwise I would have played one just for you!
The media player was on "random play" at the time. *runs off to find entertaining music for the next video*

The guppies are a really nice touch. Their little orange fan-tails contrast nicely with the green. They've been cruising all over the tank today checking out their new home.

Re-scape looks good squirrel :) and you're right the orange of the guppies adds a nice splash of colour to the whole thing :)

The tank looks quite big, what size is it? That bogwood looks great in that area, other than 2 guppys what else do you have in there?

The tank is 12X7.5X10.5 inches (or 30X18X26 cm). It's a 4 gallon tank, but after adding substrate and decor, it ends up with only 3 gallons of water.

I only have the two little guppies in there. I don't think I can add anything else!

Since it's so small and it's open, evaporation is a bit of an issue. The water level drops quickly in a few days.

It's a fun little tank!

Sam, did you also find that you had to get a smaller diameter siphon? When I used the regular siphon hose, it nearly drained the entire tank in 10 seconds! I went to the Home Depot and purchased half-inch tubing -- much better!! :D

 yeh i did! It actaully takes longer to change the water in my nano than in my 20g! I use an eheim 9/12mm hose

If your doing a gravel clean the big diameter is a bad thing, but if you want to do the rest of the water change its good!

I used my friends 1" diam piping, it was amazingly fast on my 25g tank... Until I forgot to look at the bucket for about 5 minutes... Yeah, they fill and overfill fast!!!

The tank looks amazing, I have to get the breeding betta bug out of my system, but in the future I hope to keep plants properly. I even have a t5 lighting unit ready!

Well done with the tank!! Where did you get the plants from? I have troubles finding good ones IRL, and online tend to only sell stems...

Most of the plants in this tank I purchased locally. A few of them I ordered from aquariumplants.com.

Here's an updated pic. I removed the wood as it took up too much space. Now I can plant the back. I plucked a few plants from the 10 gallon (emergency tank) which is very low light so they are looking a little "weak" at the moment!

I ordered a "nano" glass CO2 diffuser. Can't wait to replace the clunky ladder. That will free up some valuable real estate!

I really need to do more "gardening" in here. I've been a bit caught up with the 72. :D

This tank looks great too Squirrel :) I do love nano tanks, they seem more intimate some how.

I love your plants, and that black substrate is really showing the colours of the plants off.. but for some reason i'm not overly keen on the 2 piece rock structure. Have you tried it with just the top piece?

It does look a bit "clunky" doesn't it?? I'll pluck it out and see what happens!

Here's a pic from last week after a bit of re-scaping. I'm still not quite liking it....

I miss the look of the bogwood. Plus, it looks more like a garden than a natural waterscape. The heater in the background reminds me of the Alaskan Pipeline!

I prefer bogwood, but i think your stones are much better, its coming to really nicely now.

Some sort of small carpeting plant in the front right would look nice maybe HC riccia or some of the more exotic mosses such as willow moss.

What diffuser did you order?

Simon
