This may sound like a daft question but do spraybars take anything away from a filters performance. Im taking it that a spraybar is an attatchement similar to a bubble wall bar??

The spraybar attaches to the filter outflow pipe, usually sitting just above or on the water line, creating a spray like effect into the water, they help with aeration, so kinda like a bubble wall going downwards instead of upwards and usually with a lot more power, depending on the filter they are attached to :)

Could make a bit of a mess if you dont turn it downwards

Yeah that kind of happened :shout:

Instead of doing another topic, would you know a way of dechlor-ing water without using the stuff from the shops? Like a muppet, ive ran out but need to do a water change. Its snowing here and Ive no car so walking 3 miles to the lfs really aint gonna happen lol

Wow, bright and sunny up here, but no snow... Thank goodness for that, public transport kinda stops round here when the weather does that...

In most places, dechlorinator isn't needed unless the source water is realy poor. I use it as a precaution, but many members on here go without :good: Not a good idea while cycling or in a new-ish tank, but in a mature and well established tank, no problem in most cases.

All the best

Only way I know of is to fill buckets and leave them open to the air to allow the chlorine to evaporate off naturally over the course of a couple of days, (aka "the ol' fashioned way"!), of course by the time that's happened it's quite possible the snow will have gone and you'll have got some declor :P

Bit worried about going without really. Ive been using it for so long now that its second nature. I always use too much dechlor, would the chlorine bond to the old dechlor that I put in? It was filled last night.
The reason I need to put some in is cause Im putting plants in and emptied half the tank without realising I had no dechlor left!!!

Its not just the chlorine you need to worry about, whilst leaving the water to stand for 24 hours will gas off the chlorine, in our water supplies around here (Im in wolvo btw :) ) there is chloramines added to the water, so you will need dechlor. If you have no fish in the tank then dont worry about re-filing tonight, wait until you can get some more dechlor.

And yep snowing here tooo, yippppppeeeeeeeeeee :D

Got a yellow lab and 2 common plecs in there (up for sale if you are interested)> I had enough dechlor to raise the level up to 3 quaters full.
Ill just wait til tomorrow and get some.
My daughter is 14 months and this is the first time shes seen snow, shes amazed!!!

you have snow?? wow your so lucky,,tho. it looks like we may get some later..hopefully, im like a big kid in the snow i love sledging

lol what was the question ..sorry

Yep saw your add, unfortunately no room for them. They will be fine without all the water, when you do go to get some dechlor, get some pond dechlorinator, does the exact same thing as the aquarium stuff, costs less and will last you for ages, its alot stronger concentration, so 10mls does like 100 gallons :good:

Thats a good tip, ill get some of that then.

I really wish I had some dechlor now cause the tank has gone misty. I disturbed the gravel a little too much, it should settle soon though.

Any tips on how to warm up snow in a bucket? lol

Now that would be a waste!

LMAO my little boy (4) just declared that santa was on his way because it was snowing! Cant get him to understand that just because we have snow does not mean the fat beared fella is bringing him toys tonight

fill a bucket with water..put an air line in it to create motion which helps speed up the process
