Having just bought a 2nd hand tank with external eheim filter, I was wondering where the spraybar should go.

Should it be above the water 'sprinkling' water onto the surface (very noisy), or should it be below the water level?

TIA

Martin

If you have it above the tank it'll help adding oxygen in the water and give better surface movement of the water.

If you have a planted tank it's best to keep it under the water as the surface movement will release the CO2 in your water.

Thanks for the info. I do have a planted tank, so it sounds as if below the water is the way to go.

WRT releasing CO2 from the water, will an airstone have this effect too?

Should an airstone be used in a planted tank?

Martin

You shouldnt really need an airstone in a planted tank, the plants should give off enough oxygen. Also it'll disturb the surface.

Some run an airstone through the night if they have a yeast CO2 system that cant be shut off at night, as plants will use up oxygen.
