Sponge Filter

Hi guys, i hope this is the right section for this. I got a question about a sponge filter. I read that i can make one using an air pump and tubing. So I'm wondering how do i make this. I got a spare air pump Whisper 40 and an air stone land i got some filter sponge ready to go. I just need to know how do i place the tubes in the sponge?



This is what i am trying to setup...

10gal aquarium
sponge filter
heater
sand for gravel

If it was me though I would drill some whole in the tube and wrap the sponge around the tube, I usually pack some of the sponge up the bottom of the tube. Then secure with rubberbands. Or if its a big sponge just drive the tube into it while turning it and it will make a perfect cut into the sponge. I run my sponge filters using a UGF powerhead, but airpumps certainly work. They are just noisy.
