I'm gonna start a journal for my new sphaerichthys selatanensis (Chocolate gouramis), Lud thinks i'll get them to spawn and maybe get babies. I'm not sure...i'll just be happy to keep them alive!

I previously had Honey Gouramis in this set up, but run an RO system, so i wanted to take advantage of this. I have been trying to source some of these for sometime, but i couldn't get hold of them. They still appear to be quite rare. Well today i visited a LFS near Nottingham (Wheatcroft MA) and low and behold...Chocs!

Here they are

this thread will be very pic heavy over time!

Excellent find! I have only seen them a few times in shops and only once did they look anywhere near as healthy as these do! Interesting to know how you get on :) Looking forward to the journal.

cheers Reret!

and Wills, i remember you saying a couple of years back about a LFS in Scunthorpe that had some of these in. Well, since then i have been wanting them on and off. So really, it's your fault i have them! lol

ps I have checked them all this morning and they are still alive. :good:

Good luck with these!

I've seen some at a LFS that has a seperate soft water system, they looked great 'in the flesh'.

Oooh!! I love these guys! and the Licorice!

You should just try your luck asing at your local MAs, chocs and lics are really easy to get hold of... virtually impossible to keep alive on a system though! Its not work even trying, even with spot on water params on an R.O system with a bit of remineraliser i couldnt keep the Chocs alive for more than 1-2 weeks!

I will definately be watching this space!! :good:

Looking as healthy as fish in water.... Wow!.....I'm sure they will survive and I'm looking forward to reading about your (very rare) successful spawning.

You already have my vote in the FOTM competition..... When do we see them there??

Thanks for the comments everyone!

they might get entered to FOTM next month...

heres a quick vid of them best viewed in 720p

Great shot!! How are you getting on with them? This one certainly looks in very good health!!

what a fantastic picture! Looks more like inter-species romance to me.

Beautiful fish :good: My specialty lfs sells them at a very high price and recommended them in a species only tank with soft water, so sadly, I had to decline getting them. Best of luck with them :good:

cheers Wills, i have lost one due to jumping (open top tank), but the rest seem really happy. They are all really well coloured up.

now that would make a great Hybrid!

These are in a species tank, with just (obviously) shrimp and Otos, running RO, GH is around 6 and the Ph is 6.4. They really are a graceful fish to watch. They are also not as shy as others say.

They are also not as shy as others say.

Mainly 2 reasons for this...... They are currently in perfect conditions (and health) and they must be stock from an experienced breeder with excellent breeding stock....... This is what adds up to confident fish.

Great fish, I've never had much luck with them in the past myself.

What you feeding them on? i was hatching quite a lot of brine shrimp for mine when i had them.
